Public Chapter 548 (2018), codified in Tenn. Code Ann. § 71-2-115, required the development of a resource map of all services and programs affecting older Tennesseans. The report is intended to better inform the Governor and members of the General Assembly in making policy decisions that affect the State’s elder population. P.C. 548 requires the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) to design and oversee a resource mapping of all federal and state funding streams that support the health, safety, and welfare of older adults in Tennessee who are 60 years of age or older. You can access the resource map here.
In November 2022, the TCAD released a report detailing Tennessee’s aging population with the following highlights:
- Tennessee’s 60 and older population is expected to increase by more than 300,000 in the next 10 years.
- If growth trends continue, those 60 and older will represent 25% of the state’s total population by 2030.
- 38% of adults 60 and older in Tennessee live with a disability.
- Over 62% of eligible Tennesseans are enrolled in Medicare.
