Over the past several weeks, the issue of caregiving has been hitting its stride in policy circles. On the same day that President Biden introduced his “American Jobs Plan,” a plan that commits significant investment in our nation’s care economy, RCI’s CEO Dr. Jennifer Olsen participated in a virtual event with Stanford Center for Longevity to discuss ways in which Congress and the new Administration can better support caregivers.
During the event “Caregiving in Crisis: What Should Congress Do?”, Dr. Olsen spoke of the need to take a public health approach to caregiving, committing to the study of this critical population and identifying ways in which unpaid and family caregivers can better prepare for this inevitable and heartfelt task that too often results in both physical and fiscal distress for the caregiver.
RCI will continue to work with partners on behalf of broader reforms in the care economy, such as paid leave, and will engage leaders and lawmakers on the many policies that could benefit the 53 million family caregivers.
